The 15th International AWID Forum
Code of Conduct

AWID is committed to creating a Forum space that invites and challenges us all to operate from a place of courage, curiosity, generosity, and shared responsibility.

We do this together by paying attention to how we speak, behave, and treat each other. This is regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disabilities, neurodiversity, mental health, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or other protected category. This list is not intended to be exhaustive but serves as a basis for categories to consider.

When we meet in this space, it may be that some people know each other well and have previously attended the Forum, while others are new to the Forum and global movement spaces, and may be participating for the first time. People will be participating in different modes and languages and face different challenges in their participation. Recognising this and modelling our values in our behaviour and attitudes is a collective responsibility. Therefore, by registering for the Forum you are asked to commit to the following:

  • I agree to co-create a safe and inclusive space to engage, learn, unlearn, and collaborate with other participants.
  • I agree to seek permission from fellow participants before taking photographs or video recordings, and before publishing any materials online.
  • I agree to actively listen to and engage with different viewpoints in a respectful manner, using non-violent language.
  • I agree to model our feminist values and be mindful in this space, by helping fellow participants and moderators ensure it is free of any derogatory, oppressive, disrespectful language or behaviour that can result in personal attacks or discrimination such as racism, classism, transphobia, sexism, and ageism.
  • Bots and/or AI are not permitted to attend events without prior written consent, i.e. having a bot call into a Zoom call without prior authorization.

This Code of Conduct will cover all events during the entire AWID Forum from December 1-5, 2024 in Thailand including the collective moments, the activity sessions, the Gala dinner, and all spaces within the Forum event.

Reporting

If you are concerned that the Code of Conduct is being violated, you will be able to contact support person(s) at the Forum Help Desks onsite. These support persons will listen to your concerns and refer you to resources, as needed.

The support person will actively listen to your concerns and ask questions as needed to advance the resolution. In consultation with you, the point person will discuss possible solutions. These may include any action they deem appropriate, including warning or expelling the participant from the forum. Please note that while we take all concerns raised seriously, we will use our discretion to determine when and how to follow up on reported incidents, and may decline to take any further action and/or may direct the participant to other resources for resolution.

Legality

We aim to foster a safe, enjoyable, and accessible Forum space that is compliant with local laws. AWID will make any relevant local laws and regulations clear to participants in advance. Participants will be expected to comply with these laws and restrictions.

At the Forum, be mindful of your actions to ensure a safe space. Engaging in illegal activities in Bangkok may lead to event cancellation, charges, imprisonment, fines, or deportation. AWID will not be legally responsible for violations of Thai norms whose existence we have shared with all participants in advance of the Forum nor for the actions of Forum participants outside the Forum venue.

Disclaimer: “Forum venue” is any venue where the activities included in the Forum Program take place.
